bear blog challenge

I’ve seen this post float around the BearBlog "Discover” feed and I’ve been intrigued enough to try giving it a go on my own.

Why did you make this blog in the first place? You probably saw on my front page that I’ve been in and out of blogging for several years now - I think I’m in the stage of life where I’m not too busy but also have the capacity to write more consistently. I think the diagnosis helped realize that I need to capture information about my thoughts and life while sharing it with others.

Why did you choose BearBlog? My buddy Alex was the one who shared the site to me - I was going down a pretty hard rabbit hole looking at Ghost blogs, using Six or Squarespace, or self hosting. BearBlog had the best combination of simple to use, cheap, and a good community.

Have you blogged on other platforms before? Yes, I had a Squarespace site where I did photo blogging. I also ran a developer blog on dev.to which lasted all of three posts - I don’t think I really like to blog while developing: it kicks me out of my focus flow.

Do you write your posts directly in the editor or in another software? I currently edit in the editor (why does that sound so weird?). However, I’m typing this into the Ulysses app, as we speak. I think part of it is the clean UI that it provides (and that it’s built for stuff like blogging). I’m giving the free trial a solid go - who knows maybe I might even write a book now that I have the app.

When do you feel most inspired to write? Ok, so inspiration is kind of a weird one for me. I feel most inspired to write when I have a topic of interest that drives me to write. However, when I feel like writing is completely different. I could literally be in the middle of watching something and feel like writing.

Do you publish immediately after writing or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft? Yeah, this is why I’m hoping to use Ulysses to write because I have a propensity to just hit “Publish” as soon as I’m through with the last sentence. And then finding errors. And then hitting publish like six more times.

Your favorite post on your blog? Definitely, “my adhd flavor is bird”. It’s gotten the least amount of upvotes though, hah!

Any future plans for your blog? Maybe a redesign, changing the tag system, etc.? I’m thinking it’s going to continuously evolve. I want to add a photo gallery to it - I’ll probably use Adobe’s free website to host it instead of directly uploading to BearBlog. I’m also thinking my tagging system needs to be simpler because there’s too many per post right now.
