Have you heard about the Fujifilm X100VI? If not, you probably at least heard about the X100V. This rangefinder camera has been basically non-existent, supply wise, since they were released due to overhype, chip shortages, COVID, and other reasons - a veritable "white whale" for photography enthusiasts. This created unprecedented demand for the X100V.

Well...the newer X100VI has better specs which created even more hype and now the X100VI has attained "white whale" status too - most buyers are waiting anywhere from 8-12 months, or getting up-charged 400500 from MSRP to obtain it.

Is it worth the hype?

As a lifelong photographer, there's something about the compactness and simplicity of use in the X100VI system. As someone who typically shot with DSLR cameras like the Canon 5D Mark 2 or mirrorless cameras like the Sony A7RII, the size and compactness of the X100VI is mind-boggling. It's not a full-frame mirrorless camera, don't get me wrong; it takes stunning pictures but it's not going to outclass professional system. It's an everyday, run of the mill, fun to use camera.

And that's kind of the point, it's a fun to use camera. It's brought a lot of joy back into taking pictures.

What's also impressive are Fujifilm's colors. Its film recipe engine is a very powerful tool that lets you take the images Straight Out of Camera (SOOC) and use them immediately without much tweaking. As someone who's mostly shot RAW, it's kind of relieving to just push images out after a session without the need to bring it into Lightroom (although I still do because I like messing with color).

Needless to say, I think I'll be posting more pictures from this nifty little thing.
